The Effectiveness of Spiritual Therapy on Islamic Quality of Life and Psychological Health of Women with Breast Cancer

Background and Aim: Spiritual therapy is one of the treatments that can play an important role in reducing the psychological problems of women with breast cancer. The present study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of spiritual therapy on the quality of Islamic life and psychological health of women with breast cancer.
Methods: This research was conducted semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all women with breast cancer in Kerman city in the second half of 2023, 30 of them were randomly selected to enter the study by the available sampling method and divided into two experimental (15) and control (15) groups were assigned. The experimental group underwent spiritual therapy training twice a week during 12 sessions of 60 minutes. The control group did not receive any training. Data were collected in the pre-test and post-test stages using the quality of life questionnaires of Islaminejad Mohammad Namghi et al. (2014) and the general health of Goldberg (1963) and the covariance analysis method was performed with SPSS software versions 26.
Results: The results showed that in the experimental group, the average score of Islamic life quality increased from 138.24 in the pre-test stage to 181.75 in the post-test stage. Also, the average psychological health score in the experimental group increased from 71.92 in the pre-test stage to 106.38 in the post-test stage (P<0.001). The results of the analysis of covariance also showed that spiritual therapy significantly increased the Islamic quality of life (53 percent) and psychological health (41 percent) of women with breast cancer (P<0.05).
Conclusion: According to the findings, spiritual therapy affects increasing the quality of Islamic life and psychological health. Spiritual care helps the individual experience more positive emotions, which makes the quality of life and mental health they enjoy more desirable.
