Investigating the Relationship between Spiritual Health and Organizational Commitment in the Teaching Staff of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences

Background and Aim: Organizational commitment is a key concept in educational institutions, influenced by various factors such as spiritual health. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between spiritual health and organizational commitment among the educational staff of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical (correlational) study was conducted during the academic year 2022-2023. A sample of 350 educational staff was selected using stratified systematic sampling from different faculties. Data were collected using Paloutzian and Ellison’s Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) and Allen and Meyer’s Organizational Commitment Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using Spearman correlation and multiple linear regression analysis via SPSS software.
Results: Of the 350 participants, 229 (65.4%) were female and 121 (34.6%) were male. Spearman correlation results showed a positive and significant correlation between spiritual health and organizational commitment (r=0.170, P=0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis (Enter method) revealed that the model explained 13.1% of the variance in organizational commitment (R2=0.131, P=0.001), with religious well-being (β=0.222, P=0.013) and age (β=0.208, P=0.023) being the significant positive predictors.
Conclusion: The results support the role of spiritual health (specifically religious well-being) and age in predicting organizational commitment among educational staff. Therefore, enhancing spiritual health could be an effective strategy to promote organizational commitment in medical sciences universities. |
