Abstract:   (7 Views)
Background and Aim: Lifestyle, as a pattern of behaviors and beliefs, plays an important role in determining the quality of life and health of individuals and families. Families with children with special needs (including physical, mental, or psychological disorders) are in greater need of supportive and spiritual resources than other families due to additional challenges and pressures. Attention to spiritual health becomes doubly important for them. The main goal of this study is to investigate the relationship between lifestyle and spiritual health in families with children with special needs in the city of Hillah.
Methods: The research method was descriptive-correlational, and the statistical population included families in the city of Hillah who had at least one child with special needs. A sample of 100 families was selected from educational and rehabilitation centers in the city using convenience sampling. Data collection tools included two standard lifestyle questionnaires and a spiritual health questionnaire. The overall reliability of the lifestyle questionnaire was 0.89, and the reliability of the spiritual health questionnaire was 0.86 as determined by Cronbach's alpha.
Results: The research findings showed that a positive and significant relationship between lifestyle and dimensions of spiritual health religious (Beta = 0.52) and existential (Beta = 0.47) of families (P<0.05). Also, there was no statistically significant difference between the mean spiritual health scores of families based on the type of child's specific need (physical, mental, or psychological) (F = 2.85, P = 0.06), nor between the mean spiritual health of parents based on the severity of the child's specific need (F = 1.92, P = 0.15).
Conclusion: Given the positive and significant effects of lifestyle on the spiritual health of families in various religious and existential dimensions, more attention should be paid to educating and empowering families, strengthening the spiritual and religious dimension, improving the social environment, enhancing social support, focusing on environmental health and prevention, developing cultural and spiritual exchange programs, and making macro-policies in family health and education planning.
