Background and Aim: increasing the regulation of emotions leads to the progress and growth of people. Islamic ontology therapy plays an important role in their mental and physical health. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of life review therapy based on Islamic ontology on the difficulty of regulating emotions in adolescent girls (12-17 years old) in Shahrbabak city.
Methods: The research method was semi-experimental and pre-test, post-test with a control group. The statistical population of this research included all adolescent girls (12-17 years old) who referred to counseling centers in Shahrbabak in 2020 with difficulty in regulating emotions, 30 of them (15 in the experimental group and 15 in the control group) Available options were selected. Data collection tool was Gertz and Rome (2004) emotion regulation difficulty questionnaire. The intervention of life review therapy based on Islamic ontology was implemented during 8 sessions of 90 minutes twice a week in the experimental group and the control group did not receive any training. Data analysis was done with descriptive tests (mean and standard deviation) and covariance analysis using SPSS version 24 software. A P-value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: The results of the multivariate covariance analysis test showed that Islamic ontology therapy is effective on the difficulty of regulating the emotions of adolescents (12-17 years old) in Shahrbabak city at a significance level of P<0.001. The mean and standard deviation of the emotion regulation difficulty variable decreased from 106.21 ± 15.43 in the pre-test phase to 79.41 ± 22.09.
Conclusion: Islamic ontology helps to regulate people's emotions by expanding their ontological view of their actions, goals, and behaviors. Considering the effectiveness of Islamic ontology therapy on the difficulty of regulating emotions, this treatment can be used to reduce the psychological problems of adolescent girls.
